Short historical documentary series
Untold Stories was a series of short, history-based documentaries bringing forward First Nations stories often absent from mainstream narratives. Designed to build momentum around the Recognise constitutional recognition campaign, the series focused on truth-telling, memory and national reflection.
Each film explored overlooked chapters of Australia’s history through grounded storytelling and careful research. Rather than framing history as distant or abstract, the series centred lived experience, cultural survival and intergenerational resilience.
Voiced by Ernie Dingo, the films combined a strong narrative with visual storytelling that honoured the dignity and authority of the stories being shared. The tone was reflective rather than confrontational, inviting viewers into a deeper understanding of First Nations history and its continuing impact.
The series reached more than one million viewers across ABC TV and social media platforms, demonstrating the appetite for historical storytelling that is honest, accessible and grounded in Indigenous voice.
Untold Stories contributed to a broader national conversation about recognition, belonging and the unfinished work of constitutional reform, reminding audiences that understanding the past is essential to shaping a more mature and inclusive future
