Ranger Program

We produce stories celebrating the Indigenous Ranger Program as part of the Country Needs People Campaign.

Ranger Program

BushTV produced a national series of ten short films, each approximately two minutes in length, showcasing Indigenous Ranger Programs across Australia and the work being done to care for Country.

Filmed in diverse landscapes from coastlines and wetlands to deserts and forests, the series highlighted the everyday leadership of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander rangers working in land and sea management, cultural site protection, fire management, biodiversity conservation and intergenerational knowledge transfer.

Rather than presenting ranger work as abstract policy, the stories focused on people. We captured the voices of rangers speaking about their connection to Country, the responsibility they carry, and the pride they take in protecting land and sea for future generations. Elders and young rangers appeared side by side, showing that caring for Country is both an ancient practice and contemporary employment.

Each two-minute story was crafted for broadcast and digital audiences, designed to communicate clearly and accessibly while maintaining cultural integrity. The series framed ranger programs not simply as environmental initiatives, but as strong examples of self-determination in action, where cultural knowledge, science, and employment intersect.

The result was a national good news story that demonstrated what works when Indigenous leadership is properly resourced and trusted.
